A few years ago, we rebuilt a classic Masters Green 1997 Ski Nautique as a no-compromise slalom machine—the TSC1 Carbon Interceptor.
Anything that didn’t improve the pull was questioned. We removed or replaced non-essential panels, padding and hardware, then rebuilt the boat to an aggressively lightweight specification:
- Carbon-composite motor box
- 40-litre fuel tank, on center-line axis
- Lithium battery
- Lightweight carpet and flooring
- Lightweight rear panels and seating
- Simplified hoses and hardware
- PerfectPass GPS speed control
We also added adjustable Interceptor plates at the transom. These help control & stabilize the boat’s running attitude, provide a small amount of stern lift and reduce the trough beside the wake.
At rest, the modified hull floats near its running-surface chine—several inches higher than a stock 1997 Ski Nautique. The completed boat likely weighs close to 2,000 pounds.
On the water, it is an absolute banger of a slalom machine.
The light hull accelerates immediately, carries less displacement, and produces a remarkably small, clean wake. Combined with the direct-drive layout, TSC1 running surface and GPS speed control, the pull feels crisp, connected, and uncomplicated. No excess spray or commotion, just a clean flat lake ahead of you.
What the Carbon Interceptor Says About the 2027 Ski Nautique
Modern Ski Nautiques are extraordinary machines, but they also reflect the expectations of today’s premium boat buyer which leads to elaborate interiors, sophisticated electronics, extensive finishing and increasingly expensive trailers.
Meanwhile, Nautique’s G-Series and Paragon boats already occupy the flagship “king of the lake” category. This creates an interesting opportunity at the competition ski-only end of the range.
For 2026 Nautique built a smaller, lighter and more focused Ski Nautique specifically for the athlete. Not a cheaper-looking boat. Not a stripped rental boat. A purpose-built competition machine that applied modern hull design, engine management, and speed control to the same principles behind the Carbon Interceptor.
Remove everything that doesn’t make the boat ski better.
- Minimal displacement
- Lightweight composite interior components
- A fuel tank that doesn't impact skiing (as much as possible)
- A lithium electrical system
- Simple, durable flooring
- Essential instrumentation
- A skier-focused pylon and cockpit
The goal is not to out-luxury a Paragon. It delivers exactly what serious skiers want: a superb pull, a minimal wake, low operating weight and straightforward function.
Of course the 2027 is a remarkable machine, however sweet-skiing classics such as the TSC1 can be rebuilt into an amazing boat, sometimes for about the price of the trailer & taxes under a new one. 😉
